Subject: Information From American Legion District Commander
Date: January 21st 2019
This week there will be a live Town Hall meeting this Thursday night, January 24th from 7 to 9 PM.  Our own Kenny Cooper will be on the panel representing the American Legion and the Big Four.  The discussion will center on the legislation pending at the state house.  It is an informative town hall and the panel will take questions from the audience and from Facebook.  The Veteran Support Council of Indiana is sponsoring the event and the Planning Committee for Military and Veterans Legislative Day is putting it on and it will be broadcast on their Facebook page.  It will also be recorded to be used to educate our veterans before the Military and Veterans Legislative Day on February 11th.

The Post from the 11th District that has the most in attendance will again receive a prize.  I think that Post 3, the last winner, can be beaten.  All in the Legion family are invited, so please make sure your Auxiliary and Sons are aware of the Town Hall.

The Town Hall will be held at the Pike YMCA at 5315 Lafayette Rd.

We will also be holding a District wide Post revitalization/Membership Drive this weekend on Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th.  We will start the day at Post 495 on Saturday at 10 AM and be there till 2 PM.  Post 495 will also hosting their weekly Saturday morning breakfast till 11 AM.

On Sunday we will be at Post 64 from 1 till 5 PM.  To maintain our programs, we need members.  And I love when we get new members who want to be involved in our programs, or even willing to start new ones at their posts.

We will be working the 777 lists to see if members want to move into the local post from the National holding posts.  Not only can these members be an asset to your posts, if they transfer to a local posts, they are more likely to remain a member. We will also be working the lists for current expired members.  If your posts wish, you can also work the lists from 2014 to 2017.  Remember, any renewal from a Legion member who belonged in 2014, 2015, or 2016 and renews, your post will receive an additional $5.  If you wish to work those lists and do not have the capability to process them, please contact me and we will work to get you access.

The Department did make National Goals, but our District fell below that standard so we are trying to catch up to them.  We are doing a good job, but we could do a little bit better.

Please also note that the oratorical contest has been rescheduled to January 26th at 9 AM due to the weather at Post 3.

The Four Chaplains service will be on February 3rd at 2 PM at Post 64.
